Youth visit to Meylan

30 October 2008

On Thursday, 30th October a small group of young people from the Didcot area flew to Meylan to take part in a youth visit. They stayed with local families who had children their own age and were shown the town, Grenoble and the surrounding countryside. They really appreciated the opportunity of getting to know other young people, talking to them, enjoying French food and, in particular, going up to the Bastille in Grenoble in small cable cars, from where there is a wonderful view of the river, city and mountain ranges.

A party of 20 German children from Meylan's twin town of Planegg arrived on the Saturday and that evening there was an exchange of gifts - those from Didcot being provided by nPower - and the local speciality of 'tartiflette' pasta for dinner.

The next day was spent in a huge gym, where various sports and games were played in international teams, providing the perfect opportunity for getting to know each other. After a plentiful lunch there was a demonstration of hip hop dancing and a chance to try the different disciplines of hip hop - a fun experience.

All too soon it was time to go to Lyon airport for the return flight during which everyone reported back on their experiences with much enthusiasm and the wish that links will be maintained with our French friends.
